Caffè Stella Polare is not just a bar; it is a historic gem nestled in the heart of Trieste. Established in 1865, this charming cafe boasts a unique blend of Viennese aesthetics with classic decorations featuring intricate stuccoes and mirrors that transport you back to a time when poets and merchants gathered to share ideas over coffee.
The atmosphere is alive with the rich sounds of laughter and conversation, creating a welcoming environment that celebrates the spirit of community. You can find both locals and tourists savoring leisurely moments, chatting over delicious pastries and aromatic coffee. It's no wonder Asiyah Noemi Koso describes it as "a well-known historical place where citizens gather." This cafe is not just a stop for refreshments; it's a beloved meeting place where stories unfold.
Speaking of refreshments, Caffè Stella Polare offers a delightful menu that caters to both the sweet tooth and those seeking a savory bite. The cappuccino, highly praised by Enrique, is a must-try. Paired with a flaky cornetto, it creates a symphony of flavors perfect for breakfast. While some have noted that the prices for certain items, like bread or croissants, might be slightly on the higher side, the overall quality and taste — particularly the sandwiches — receive glowing reviews. Justin van der Heijden and others attest to the freshness and flavor, making them worth every cent.
For those who enjoy dining al fresco, there are ample outdoor tables, but do be mindful of the nearby birds looking to join you! As Paula Vizitiu points out, the occasional feathered friend may swoop in, adding to the charming and vibrant atmosphere of the cafe.
If you appreciate swift service, Caffè Stella Polare delivers with baristas who are both quick and courteous, ensuring your experience remains pleasant amidst the hustle of orders — it's all part of the authentic Italian cafe culture that abdelmouiz charef so fondly describes.
With its rich history, inviting ambiance, and delicious offerings, Caffè Stella Polare is a must-visit spot in Trieste. Whether you’re grabbing a coffee to-go or settling in for a leisurely breakfast, this bar is sure to leave a lasting impression and perhaps even a craving to return. Caffe bar Stella Polare is a well-known historical place where the citizens have their meeting place. An exceptionally nice and pleasant place to hang out and talk. The birth of Caffè Stella Polare dates back to 1865. The unmistakable Viennese taste, with its classic decorations of stuccoes and mirrors, characterized by a place attended mainly by merchants of German origin and by many writers and artists both from Trieste and abroad. The visitors was Umberto Saba, his daughter Linuccia, Guido Voghera, Virgilio Giotti and James Joyce a teacher ( that time ) at the nearby Berlitz School, and many more….. Now, besides the traditional bar and cafeteria service, you can relax at lunch. For those who want a bit quiet, there is a comfortable and silent Tea Room available. In the inner room, in addition to finding a rich pastry department, a pictorial or photographic exhibition is permanently set up which hosts a different artist every two weeks. A great place to relax and enjoy the rich history. The service is exceptionally good, pleasant and professional.

Food was good. €7 for bread or a croissant is a bit steep but the sandwiches are delicious. We sadly didn’t buy any coffee. The waiters are quick to respond and very polite. Great spot for a restaurant

When visiting **Caffè Stella Polare**, you can expect the barista to quickly take your order from behind the bar while serving several other people simultaneously, just like the Italian tradition! A nice cappuccino and cornetto make for a great breakfast.
